There are many jobs out there that everyone knows about such as doctors, engineers, and scientists. The STEM fields are becoming increasingly popular as technology continues to advance, but there are also unique jobs out there that earn well and are interesting. These may be side jobs as a source of extra income or they could be full time jobs that people decide deserves their full interest. Some jobs may require a certain level of education and others can be done without a degree. The world is full of tasks that need to be completed in efficient ways. These are some jobs I chose that stood out to me
Flavorist

Chemists and biologists are popular professions, but have you ever heard of a flavorist? A Flavorist, also known as a food chemist, is someone who creates flavors found in a variety of edible goods. They create both artificial and natural flavors using different ingredients and just like scientists, test their creations. For example, they test how certain flavors work in different products people use on a daily basis such as vitamins and lip balm. If you enjoy chemistry, this may be the right job for you! However, becoming a flavorist is not easy. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree and working as a lab assistant for five years. Flavorists also need to be creative, patient, and have a good memory to remember different scents. . Next time you are eating, think about how the different flavors came together to make the item. The food you last ate might’ve had flavors a flavorist made and tested!
Professional ethical hacker

You probably have heard of a malicious hacker who goes through individual or company property for information, but have you heard of an ethical hacker? Ethical hackers have the same skills as those sneaky individuals who break the news all the time, but they do it to protect systems from these kind of people. Black hat hackers are those who illegally use their hacking abilities, whereas white hat hackers use their hacking abilities legally and for legitimate reasons. Ethical hackers do their job to find and solve problems before the malicious hackers can exploit them. Additionally, they search for vulnerabilities and weaknesses in target systems. Some other responsibilities of an ethical hacker might include sniffing networks, bypassing and cracking wireless encryption, and hijacking web servers and web applications. If you’re interested in programming and computer science, you should consider being an ethical hacker. In order to be one, a CEH (certified ethical hacker) certification is required. Ethical hackers are always desired by companies because they are necessary to keep the company in good hands.
Cartographer

Countless classrooms have various maps such as world maps, national maps, and geographic maps. Paper maps are old school ways of getting places and have been used for centuries. Have you ever wondered who created these maps? Maps are designed by cartographers, but it is not as simple as it may seem. A cartographer researches geographical data in order to collect enough information to create a map. A lot of their tasks involve using computers and analyzing different types of data. They look at different factors such as precipitation patterns, demographics, and population. Cartographers use aerial images and satellites to gather information that can be used in designing a map. In order to be a cartographer, a person must be able to pay attention to small details, maintain accuracy, resolve issues, and uphold confidence in his or her findings. Although a lot of the world has been charted, it’s constantly changing, so cartographers are still needed to find these new changes. Cartographers also revise old maps if something has changed. If you enjoy looking at maps and wonder how they are so detailed, consider becoming a cartographer!
Menu Engineer

Have you ever been amazed at how gorgeous a menu looked? A menu engineer does that. Menu engineers figure out how much to charge for a food item based on customers and the business in the long run. Menu engineers like to trick customers into buying more expensive items by designing the menu to make them look pleasing to the eye. Next time you see a menu, think about the way the menu is designed or how the items are ordered, because that’s the way a menu engineer thinks. Why do menu engineers design menus in a certain way? The way a menu is designed can make or break sales. The goal is to increase profitability with every guest. A way to increase profitability is by categorizing items in a certain way, a way to please the guest. They look at different factors like who their regular customers are and what kind of food they’d be interested in the most. Menu engineers like to highlight the items they want to sell the most of and make them noticeable to the guests on the menu by boxing them or adding a shape around it. They also require some marketing and hospitality knowledge in order to know what the customers wants and make the menu based off that. If you become a menu engineer, you also get the perk of bragging about how cool your job is.
These are just a few of the many fascinating jobs that people normally don’t think of, there are so many more out there waiting to be explored. In life, you will always be learning, even if you’re not in school. If you want to learn something new, check some jobs out that are out of your comfort zone and learn more about them. Many of these jobs can also be done with common degrees; for example, marketing is needed to be a menu engineer. So, get out there and explore new jobs! You never know, you may just be a menu engineer or ethical hacker in the future! Find that your passion among one of the many unusual jobs.
